I am a business executive living and working the Northeast USA. I like to write about the challenges of integrating my professional and spiritual life — without censoring the messy, ridiculous, cynical and irreverent thoughts that happen to tag along with my current outlook on life.
Aside from my day job as a Senior Vice President, I am a Content Editor at the The High Calling. My writing has also been featured in the The Conference Board Review magazine, Christianity Today’s Men of Integrity, and The Chicago Sun Times.

Good luck with the blog. I plan to visit again. You seem to be an atypical Presbyterian. Most that I know are great examples of the “frozen chosen” (if you buy into the whole predestination conundrum). You appear to be a refreshing diversion from all things “decently and in order.” You sure you’re not Jewish? You’re far too funny!
Spence (can I call you Spence?) –
Yes, I admit that as Prebyterians, our church has its fair share of committees. But otherwise I am lucky to be part of a very dynamic congregation. And I find that most of the other church members I hang with are, like me, not afraid to air their cynical/humorous perspectives on life and spirituality from time to time! It certainly makes for a more interesting community.

I prefer to go by Spencer, but thanks for asking! Your church, with its wit and sarcasm abounding, sounds like the sort of church that I would enjoy. I am sure that Jesus enjoyed a good laugh with his boys every now and then. Who wouldn’t have wanted to hang out with those guys? Have you ever met a fisherman you didn’t like?!

A mutual friend recommended your website. I’ve cruised around and think its wonderful. The reason he recommended it was because of a book I wrote that has just recently been released by NavPress called, The Gift of Work. Matthew – My work is mostly in strategy, real estate development and a bunch of other things to keep the organization running. It keeps changing all the time. Why is that?
How do I achieve results, you ask? By showing up every day and pounding away at the pile. What else can you do? Oh, and i try to be smart and kind and ask God’s grace to cut through everything I do.
Elaine – No, not an English lit major, but I do enjoy writing (as you can tell!). Maybe that’s what I should have taken! Thanks for the nice comments!

I’m a Spiritual Activist, with expertise in the multi-lingual client retention/relations/resolution field. I’m a volunteer, World Regions Coordinator for a movement that says, “We are all One – let’s practice.” Thus far, Desmond Tutu, Deepak Chopra, David Brabham, Yoko Ono, Marianne Williamson, and many more, known to many and known to few – all teammates of humanity signing a Oneness Petition. (Archbishop Tutu spent time with us in South Africa this Spring, and accepted Humanity’s Team’s spiritual leadership award. It was so much fun for everyone!)

You should read Still 25 Inside by Lindsey Agnes. It’s meant for women, but as a 50 year old male you probably have man boobs by now, so you qualify!
I just started reading it and intend to finish it once I remember where I put my reading glasses.
Of course, once I do find them, I will have forgotten why I was looking for them in the first place!
I too have the black (very sexy) convertible, which actually makes me feel a little younger. I don’t look any younger in it, but if I put my foot down fast enough the force of the wind against my face gives me an instant, if temporary, skin tightening face lift!
Don’t worry about how you look at 50 becuase in my experience you disappear from view anyway. You will probably find younger people start walking towards you with no intention of changing their course in order to avoid a direct collision. (It’s because you are 50 and sudddenly invisible!).
