About J.B. Wood

I am a business executive living and working the Northeast USA. I like to write about the challenges of integrating my professional and spiritual life — without censoring the messy, ridiculous, cynical and irreverent thoughts that happen to tag along with my current outlook on life.

Aside from my day job as a Senior Vice President, I am a Content Editor at the The High Calling. My writing has also been featured in the  The Conference Board Review magazine, Christianity Today’s Men of Integrity, and The Chicago Sun Times.

You will find out more about me through the stories I tell on this blog.  But enough about me, because, who really cares? Go ahead and read the Blog and join in the conversation!

Welcome to the world of blogging about faith and the workplace! You have a great — and quite funny — start! I look forward to reading more in the future.

I’ve linked at http://www.redletterbelievers.blogspot.com, a place where we encourage beleivers to live out their ‘salt’ and ‘light’ in the workplace, trying to be people of the Red Letters of Christ.

    Bradley,
Good luck with the blog. I plan to visit again. You seem to be an atypical Presbyterian. Most that I know are great examples of the “frozen chosen” (if you buy into the whole predestination conundrum). You appear to be a refreshing diversion from all things “decently and in order.” You sure you’re not Jewish? You’re far too funny!

Spence (can I call you Spence?) –
Yes, I admit that as Prebyterians, our church has its fair share of committees. But otherwise I am lucky to be part of a very dynamic congregation. And I find that most of the other church members I hang with are, like me, not afraid to air their cynical/humorous perspectives on life and spirituality from time to time! It certainly makes for a more interesting community.
    Thanks for your comment!

    Bradley,
I prefer to go by Spencer, but thanks for asking! Your church, with its wit and sarcasm abounding, sounds like the sort of church that I would enjoy. I am sure that Jesus enjoyed a good laugh with his boys every now and then. Who wouldn’t have wanted to hang out with those guys? Have you ever met a fisherman you didn’t like?!

    Bradley,

A mutual friend recommended your website. I’ve cruised around and think its wonderful. The reason he recommended it was because of a book I wrote that has just recently been released by NavPress called, The Gift of Work. It has a lot to do with faith and work and delves into the intrisic good of work. Dallas Willard wrote the forward and has recommended the book at his website http://www.dwillard.org

I look forward to hearing about your journey.

    God bless,

    Bill

Bradley: You and your ‘buds’ (colleagues, cohorts, fellow-conspirators, what have you) have certainly opened up some fresh, new ideas for me to ponder.

Hey Bradley: Thanks for visiting my site. Will pray for you and your wonderful family. Hope you put pics of you too (at least a mugshot). Do take care and God bless you.

    Hi Bradley,

Excellent entry. I have read a few of your writings. Your style is crisp (even edgy) and to the point. You must be a very successful individual.

What is the nuts and bolts of your business executive work? How do you achieve results?

I look forward to any insights you may have.

Interesting, fun take on Tweeting. Very well written. Something about your writing reminds me of The Tale of Two Cities. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Were you an English Lit major?! Smooth as silk, swiftly flowing, gently rolling swirling thought waves. Enjoyed your article and was wondering how difficult it may be to disengage your tongue from your cheek! 😉

JBoy, Matthew and Elaine – Thanks for dropping by!!

Matthew – My work is mostly in strategy, real estate development and a bunch of other things to keep the organization running. It keeps changing all the time. Why is that?
How do I achieve results, you ask? By showing up every day and pounding away at the pile. What else can you do? Oh, and i try to be smart and kind and ask God’s grace to cut through everything I do.

Elaine – No, not an English lit major, but I do enjoy writing (as you can tell!). Maybe that’s what I should have taken! Thanks for the nice comments!

Fascinating folks on your blog, Bradley!

Your writings had me shaking my head yes, firstly; then, admiring your style of writing. You brighten an already mellow afternoon, thanks.

I’d like to offer an idea and a link to you, since what I read in your blog posts is you demonstrating your Spirituality (Who you are) in real-time.

I’m a Spiritual Activist, with expertise in the multi-lingual client retention/relations/resolution field. I’m a volunteer, World Regions Coordinator for a movement that says, “We are all One – let’s practice.” Thus far, Desmond Tutu, Deepak Chopra, David Brabham, Yoko Ono, Marianne Williamson, and many more, known to many and known to few – all teammates of humanity signing a Oneness Petition. (Archbishop Tutu spent time with us in South Africa this Spring, and accepted Humanity’s Team’s spiritual leadership award. It was so much fun for everyone!)

I’d like to ask you if you’ll take just several moments to click on the link and read it, yes? Then perhaps, if you agree with the premise, you might sign it.

Thanks, either way, Bradley. Glad to have found your blog. I’d like to put a link to yours on my own blog (http://www.themiddletimes.com)

You should read Still 25 Inside by Lindsey Agnes. It’s meant for women, but as a 50 year old male you probably have man boobs by now, so you qualify!
I just started reading it and intend to finish it once I remember where I put my reading glasses.
Of course, once I do find them, I will have forgotten why I was looking for them in the first place!
I too have the black (very sexy) convertible, which actually makes me feel a little younger. I don’t look any younger in it, but if I put my foot down fast enough the force of the wind against my face gives me an instant, if temporary, skin tightening face lift!
Don’t worry about how you look at 50 becuase in my experience you disappear from view anyway. You will probably find younger people start walking towards you with no intention of changing their course in order to avoid a direct collision. (It’s because you are 50 and sudddenly invisible!).
    This little quote may help:

It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you’ll risk looking like a fool, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive……….

You should hop over the river sometime and come watch me perform at open mic. I am reading from my book tonight, which isn’t published yet, but I am reeling fans in. elizabeth@cookappeal.com for details. If I know someone will make it out, I make sure I sign up.

Its a great music venue and coffee house, with sandwiches. I wouldn’t lie, I am a chef and am picky. Some coffee houses food is ehhh…

Thanks for the compliment, I cannot help but being funny, my way of coping and God’s gift…Thankfully I have him…

Hi Bradley, I was thrilled to come across your blog! Would you like to review my book on your blog, it will fit in nicely with the sort of thing you blog about, although written from a woman’s perspective the principles remain relevant to all trying to find the balance in life.
